Judge Roger L. Lund was appointed Superior Court Judge by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in December 2009. He has handled all aspects of family law matters, elder abuse, domestic violence and civil harassment restraining orders, criminal trial and arraignment courts, traffic trials, small claims, and unlawful detainer cases, and served on the court’s appellate panel.
Judge Lund is currently assigned to the Family Law Department, hearing cases in Department 33 at the Hall of Justice in Ventura. His assignment includes all aspects of family law matters, including domestic violence restraining orders in cases assigned to him. Judge Lund previously spent 7.5 years as a family law judge and child support commissioner. Judge Lund’s published family law cases are: Rich v. Thatcher (2011) 200 Cal.App.4th 1176, and Boswell v. Boswell (In re the Marriage of Boswell) (2014) 225 Cal.App.4th 1172.
From 2018-2026, Judge Lund served as the Presiding Probate Judge handling all probate, trust, conservatorship and guardianship of the person and estate cases in Ventura County in Courtroom J6 at the Juvenile Justice Center and Probate Court in Oxnard. He is a frequent speaker on topics related to probate, trust, conservatorships and guardianships at continuing education conferences for a variety of organizations, including the Professional Fiduciary Association of California Educational Conference, Hawaii Tax Institute, Special Needs Trust Symposium, Through the Looking Glass Symposium, Ventura County Bar Association, County Counsels’ Association of California, National Guardianship Association, and the Fox Rothschild Fiduciary Attorney Summit.
In 2024, Judge Lund was appointed by the Chief Justice of California to serve as a member of the Probate and Mental Health Curriculum Committee of the Center for Judicial Education and Research (CJER). As part of that assignment, Judge Lund teaches other judges, probate attorneys and probate examiners new to the probate assignment at CJER’s week-long annual Probate and Mental Health Primary Assignment Orientation, and has regularly presented at CJER’s annual Probate and Mental Health Institute, which provides continuing education for the same audience.
Judge Lund’s published probate cases are: Breslin v Breslin (2021) 62 Cal.App.5th 801, Conservatorship of the Person and Estate of Norma Farrant (Friend v. Farrant) (2021) 67 Cal.App.5th 370, Conservatorship of the Person of A.E. (Kristine A. v. Ventura County Public Guardian) (2020) 45 Cal.App.5th 277, and Gary Leiper v. Dennis Gallegos (2021) 69 Cal.App.5th 284.
Judge Lund was named 2022 Judge of the Year by the Ventura County Trial Lawyers Association.
In June 2008, Roger L. Lund was elected as a Superior Court Commissioner by a unanimous vote of the Ventura Superior Court Judges, and served on the bench in that capacity until his appointment as a Superior Court Judge. While a Superior Court Commissioner, he primarily handled child support, child custody and visitation, domestic violence and civil harassment restraining order cases.
Prior to joining the bench, Judge Lund was in private practice for 13 years, handling wills, trusts, probates, conservatorships and guardianships, small business formation and advisement, real property transactions, and estate and income tax matters. During this time, he also served as a Probate Referee Assistant to Gregory R. Gose, California Probate Referee, assisting in the valuation of all kinds of probate estate assets.
Judge Lund received his Juris Doctor degree from Pepperdine University School of Law, and his undergraduate bachelor of arts degree in Philosophy from Brigham Young University.
In addition to his profession, Judge Lund has volunteered his time in many capacities with the Boy Scouts of America, served as a Planning Commissioner for the City of Camarillo, as a board member of the Boys and Girls Club of Camarillo, Pleasant Valley Education Foundation, and St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital Foundation, as a strategist for several local political campaigns, and as an elected member of a county party central committee.
